Updated figures indicate that the global market for FSC wood and wood-based products (and derived products like paper) has now topped 20 Billion USD. More than 95 million ha are now certified to FSC’s high social and environmental standards in over 85 countries. This represents the equivalent of 7% of forests identified primarily for production by FAO. Moreover, 7,873 wood-paper-paste companies have been FSC certified in 84 countries. In several areas, FSC has become a truly robust system.
In the Netherlands, the FSC logo is used for 13% of wood within the building industry. In the same country, the FSC logo is well known by 60% of consumers so much that it is the fourth best-known trademark. The international center of the Forest Stewardship Council launched a market information pack – FSC Market Info Pack – to ensure upgraded figures on the state of the art of certification and FSC products market. Free download is available on www.fsc.org/charts – updated every three months.
