Asal sponsors the creation of a designer-style market

Asal Assoallestimenti, the Federlegno-Arredo Association that represents exhibition and show stand fitters and furnishers, is sponsoring the competition set up by the Milan City Councillor for Trade, Tiziana Maiolo, to create designer stalls for Milan markets of the future.
The initiative was devised with project support from the Milan Polytechnic faculty of Design. Four classes in the Faculty, a total of over 150 students, participated in the project workshops, which resulted in around 50 models of stalls.
An initial list of 21 projects was selected from these by a jury comprising Councillor Tiziana Maiolo, Francesca Feraboli and Mariateresa Broggini (Milan City Council), Alberto Seassaro and Luciano Crespi (Milan Polytechnic), Andrea Cancellato (Milan Triennale), Gilda Boiardi (Editor of “Interni”) and Giorgio Montingelli (Unione del Commercio). Further selection led to 10 projects that were shown last February, in scale models, at the Ottagono in the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery in Milan.
Out of these, the three finalist models were chosen and each one, thanks to work by Asal Assoallestimenti, through several associate companies, was transformed into a prototype and on show during the Furniture Show, from 16 to 21 April. It is now up to the citizens to choose their designer stall, symbol of the new markets with Milan-style design.
Milan City Council will purchase 200 examples of the chosen stall prototype, a total investment of 400,000 euros. The new stalls will then be put at the disposal of the itinerant stall-holders in the Lombardy capital city markets. In particular, the new designer stalls will be used during the next edition of the “Oh bej, Oh bej” fair for Sant’Ambrogio celebrations on 7 December.
