The third Sicam in Pordenone from 19 to 22 October 2011, proves that the event has conquered credibility and effectiveness, despite a still tough economic situation.
It cannot be denied: we all know what the situation is. Problems are widespread. Pessimism rules. Many industry exhibitions cannot conceal some “suffering”, however Sicam has gathered something like 530 exhibitors and is expecting 18 thousand visitors like last year. Maybe a few less are coming, because companies will certainly try to cut costs and the number of traveling people. But still, Pordenone seems to be an established capital in the small world of wood and furniture.
“We are a useful event”, says Carlo Giobbi, patron of the exhibition that celebrates its third edition this year. “After all, we are good at doing what any exhibition should do, i.e. cook all the ingredients for the maximum satisfaction of exhibitors and visitors”.
A recipe that Giobbi has been replicating for several years, but if it were that simple, everyone would do the same and that’s it. And yet…
“Sicam is built on three pillars. The Pordenone exhibition center is at the heart of a key district for furniture and interior decorations, a place where offer and demand are constantly meeting. In addition, the territory offers efficient infrastructures, excellent hospitality at affordable prices, a long food and wine tradition, an international airport in Venice just 40 minutes away, and two more airports (Treviso and Trieste) used by many low-cost airways.
Another key factor is our constant commitment to “tailor” Sicam to exhibitors and visitors:we are not chasing records, we don’t want any giant stands, but rather working areas, an environment to meet and interact with a direct and immediate approach, where you can easily find what you want, discuss, show and experience.”
You are not the only event with this formula…
“… but maybe, with our third ingredient, i.e. 30 years experience, we have an edge.We are very keen on all aspects of our work and we know that our partners, whether exhibitors or visitors, need information, quick answers, they have to feel us by their side, they have to realize we are not satisfied with just selling area…I could make thousands of examples, and this is why, even in an economic situation no one would have ever imagines, we have been able to collect over 530 exhibitors!”
Many visitors come to Pordenone from distant countries…
“We work hard to achieve this result, which adds to the fact that Italy is a reference market for the global furniture industry.Out of 18 thousand visitors in 2010, 26 percent come from abroad, mainly Germany, Spain, Russia and Great Britain. They were attracted to Pordenone by our presence and promotion at all industry exhibitions all around the world. This is one of the ingredients of our recipe:promoting our event and knowing people, their requirements, the peculiarities of specific markets…It is an essential part of our job, including a massive promotion campaign in all leading trade publications”.
So, everything’s ready for the next edition…
“Definitely, yes.We have also created an agenda of side events (editor’s note), and some initiatives to strengthen our collaboration with the district.A major example is the agreement with Atap: the entrance ticket entitles to the free use of public transport. An additional service that is consolidated in many exhibitions around the world, but totally new in Italy!Among side event, let me mention the “Espressionismo” exhibit at Villa Manin, for which we have extended the opening hours so that visitors and exhibitors can visit it at the end of the day at no cost, probably using shuttle buses from Sicam to the museum”.
And finally?
“Finally, we are sure that Sicam has become a reference event in Italy, a market so important that it needs an annual event…”.(l.r.)
