From 4-7 March 2012 under the motto “Rock your business” you have the chance once again to really hammer your message home at the “Internationale Eisenwarenmesse Köln”, the leading global trade fair for the hardware industry. With an area of around 142,000 square meters, this is the only place to discover the very latest innovations, discuss current trends with leading figures, establish new contacts and meet all the important decision-makers from trade and industry. Over 2,700 exhibitors are expected coming from 50 countries from the various sectors of the hardware industry, the latest innovations and everything from abrasives to wire strippers. More info and online accreditation (service available until February 17) at www.eisenwarenmesse.com.
Digital precision
Several years ago, a trend arose towards increasing products’ versatility so that they can be used for a broader range of applications. More powerful digital precision tools play a major role in this ongoing trend.
For example, a new multimedia pipe inspection camera that was presented in Cologne is equipped with an especially large screen, as well as with documentation software and an integrated transmitter for the precise positioning of the camera head. A large, 10.4″ Tft- Lcd colour display provides fantastic image quality for inspections or damage analyses and makes even the tiniest details and cracks become visible. The discovery of small details is further improved by a 4x digital zoom function. The complete control unit – consisting of the screen, controls for recording and displaying images and regulating the Led, as well as other components – can be removed for use in tight areas that are difficult to access. At the push of a button, the system can quickly save videos and photographs on a Usb flash drive and immediately display them.
High-end electronic torque wrenches and angle-controlled wrenches show measurement results on an easily readable display. In most cases, the tools come with a dual-language menu for making precise settings. Top-of-the-line wrenches can store up to 2,000 measurements along with the time and date so that the information can be retrieved again at any time. If needed, it is even possible to set up a system for transmitting the data from the wrench via radio, WLAN, or Bluetooth.
Digital perfection is also becoming more widespread among measuring equipment. New devices can make measurements as well as document and display the results. These are easy-to-use tools that enable non-surveyors to precisely measure and chart buildings and other objects down to the last millimetre. The devices accurately and efficiently measure and document all of the dimensions and details, including crooked walls and warped corners. A built-in camera focuses on a point on the object to be measured. This point is hit with a laser beam to measure its exact position, angle and other parameters. A single device suffices to measure positions, heights and distances in all three dimensions. This makes it easier than ever before to measure ceilings, floors, roofs, volumes, gradients, slopes, height differences and angles. The result is a fast, efficient, precise and economical tool that is incredibly easy to handle.
Ergonomic, light and powerful
The new generation of water pump pliers has been substantially improved in many details. During the development of these products, the designers particularly wanted to make sure the pliers could be quickly adjusted and ensure effective and secure force transfer. For example, a three-point grip system has a 30 percent greater clamping force at the middle of the pipe than the predecessor model, and can achieve this force all the way up to the tool’s maximum diameter. The gripping pliers’ curved shape also makes work on wide-diameter pipes easier while at the same time reducing the risk of pinching one’s fingers.
A hand tool supplier will be presenting new products at the fair that cause far fewer vibrations, less noise and less dust during grinding than other systems. What’s more, the manufacturer also managed to further reduce the tools’ weight.
New power side-cutting pliers with a patented dual-joint design will also be displayed at the fair. This design enables users to transfer very much force while also boosting their cutting performance despite the fact that far less energy is required. In addition, the cutting vibrations are dampened to such a degree that the tension in the user’s muscles is released smoothly instead of with a jerk.
Manufacturers from the sector are increasingly addressing issues resulting from demographic change. One of the suppliers will display special fitting and shaping products for elderly people to use at home. This range of household, hobby, and mobile products was primarily designed for people who suffer from physical limitations resulting from handicaps or age. The developers wanted to provide people with products that would enable them to continue over the long term to live comfortably and independently in a familiar environment.
Sustainability
Achieving high energy efficiency has been a big concern for electric and battery-powered tools for many years now. However, the focus is increasingly on highlighting the complete range of sustainability issues. A new bench drill, for example, is designed in such a way that it can be assembled from only a few parts, most of which take into account the entire value chain. What’s more, the components can be recycled once the product has come to the end of its lifecycle.
The improvements that are being steadily made to compressed-air devices are just as intelligent and innovative as those to the bench drill. One new device can, for example, optimally supply up to 10 bars of compressed air to all types of compressed-air tools, including nail drivers, silicone cartridge guns, tyre inflators and blow guns. Depending on the specific design, a patented HD-controller can be used at up to 23 bars. The device’s operating pressure can be infinitely adjusted and remains at a constant level. A simple click system allows the portable compressed-air unit to be quickly attached to the worker’s leather belt. There will also be interesting new products in the area of construction site air compressors. A high-performance device will be displayed in Cologne. The system has a new design and can take in 350 litres of air per minute. Two 18-litre tanks ensure that sufficient amounts of air are always available at the construction site.
