Moroso, one of the beautiful Italian companies for furniture and interior design, participates as a technical partner in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with the “Impossible Wood” chairs, designed by the Anglo-Indian duo Doshi Levien. The chairs are present in the common areas of Casa Italia, located in Tokyo at “The Kihinkan – Takanawa Manor House”, a building characterised by early 20th century Art Nouveau architecture situated in the Minato district, about 10 kilometres from the Olympic Village and the Main Press Centre. During the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, scheduled from July 23 to August 8, Casa Italia will be the meeting place for the athletes of the Italian team in Tokyo.
Aesthetically, “Impossible Wood” has an essential and refined profile, an agile structure from which the graceful perspective of the chair emerges. “Impossible Wood” is the result of a long research work undertaken by the two designers that tells a story of visual, geometric and perceptive investigation: a new formal sequence that mediates naturalness, interfering with it, preserving, in a moulded plastic product, the visual and tactile qualities of wood.
