And here we are at a new chapter of our “Xylexpo Preview” focus that will anticipate to our readers what they will be able to see in the four-day event in Milan. In this chapter we focus on SCM, the well-known Rimini-based group that specializes in the construction of woodworking machinery, which will be featured at the new edition of Xylexpo 2022, to be held Oct. 12-15 in conjunction with Bi-Mu.
The fair will be a special occasion for the group to celebrate with customers, dealers and media partners its 70th anniversary, for a story that began in 1952 with L’invincibile joinery and continues today with 750 million in sales, more than 4,000 employees and a very wide range of products and services.
With an innovative and multimedia stand of more than 2 thousand square meters inside Hall 22, the Rimini-based group will propose its vision of a digital, connected and integrated factory, designed to accompany all businesses and application areas of the sector: from the craftsman to large industry; from furniture to window and door frames, from joinery to wood construction.
Integration will be one of the key concepts guiding visitors’ experience inside the SCM booth. The Smart&Human Factory model, already successfully applied by manufacturers, will present several innovations aimed at making customer processes even more efficient and sustainable and will be reproposed in two specific versions for industry and craftsman.
In both cases, SCM will offer integrated systems of automated, modular and easily reconfigurable flexible cells capable of meeting all the requirements of Industry 4.0.
Cells that combine the advantages of SCM technologies in terms of robustness, efficiency and reliability, with digital products and services from world class manufacturing: “Mes” systems for production management and control; supervisor software for lines and cells to monitor the status of each of the products being processed throughout the process; IoT systems and apps for collecting and analyzing data from the machines, for full control and implementation of intelligent and predictive maintenance models. Not forgetting robotic and automation systems integrated with machines, also flexible and modular, dedicated to large-scale industry.
Also integrated is the vision of digital transformation that the Xylexpo audience will be able to touch on in the SCM Digital Integrated Woodworking Process area. Here technologies, software and services will integrate at all stages-data preparation, planning, production, monitoring and service-to increase productivity and connect the entire process from office to factory.
There are many new features among process software at different stages of woodworking. Great interest is also expected for “easyFlow,” SCM’s new “Mes plug&play” that is simple, scalable and affordable even for artisan companies, and “Thundercut,” the cutting optimizer-sequencer that brings the potential of a circular saw closer to the most powerful of industrial panel saws.
In the same area there will be no shortage of in-depth discussions with SCM experts on the increasingly customer-centred opportunities of digital services that support the customer from pre to post-sale: the new “My Scm” portal that allows access to a very wide range of technical assistance services at any time and from anywhere, even via smartphone; the new integrated “E-shop” for online sales of machines, spare parts, software and services; and the IoT platform “Maestro connect” perfectly integrated with the “Woodworking made Izy” project that sees the most important machinery manufacturers committed to offering a common language for their technologies, with a view to total integration of the customer’s machines.
THE MAIN TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS
The “made in SCM” innovation will embrace the entire range of solutions on display for the industry: panel sizing, nesting, edgebanding, drilling, assembly and packaging in the panel processing area; integrated SCM Surface Technologies sanding, pressing and painting solutions to meet all surface treatment needs with exclusive state-of-the-art aesthetic finishing results; window and door technologies and solid wood processing; squaring, including new products for click furniture; wood building systems and joinery 4.0.
Also innovative will be the way the various innovations will be presented: 7.5×3-meter ledwalls, multimedia and interactive systems, cameras and 3D flow animations ready to give visitors a unique real-time experience on each production process. In addition to daily demos and interviews with SCM professionals from the new “Scm News” column, there will be no shortage of remote connections with SCM Technology Centers to present and learn more about innovations not on display at the show as well.
