Altendorf – the Minden-based group specializing in the production of sliding table saws and edgebanders and imported to Italy by Albricci of Cesano Maderno – recently received the World Technology Leader Award, a well-known international prize given to the “most innovative” solutions of the year.
Altendorf was nominated for its “Hand Guard” system, the certified, artificial intelligence-controlled safety assistance system for sliding table saws. A technology that has already found its way into the pages of Xylon, but which we summarize in these lines.
“Hand Guard” has two cameras that monitor a large area around the blade. When a hand is detected and gets too close to the blade, it is stopped and pushed down in a maximum of a quarter of a second. No damage is done to the blade, and the system can be restarted after a maximum of 10 seconds.
THE AWARD.
The WTLA winners were determined by a public online vote: more than 43 thousand votes were cast from more than 80 countries. With a total of 4,496 votes, Altendorf surprisingly placed third, behind the company Asml and the joint venture Bmw and Nvidia. Consumer electronics manufacturer Apple came in fourth place, followed by other well-known brands such as Jabra, Samsonite, Cosco, or Sixt.
