Cvm’s “alternative” innovation

When we think about technology and a more “wide-ranging” technological innovation in a sector such as mechanical engineering, the first element that comes to everyone’s mind is the product: new developments, evolutions, new components, software, upgrades. Less often, however, one thinks about production processes. In this context, Cvm, the company based in Montelabbate (a few kilometers from Pesaro) that has been designing and implementing automation solutions for more than 40 years, didn’t explain us much about all the novelties of a machine; instead, they presented the evolution of their production concept.

“The characterizing elements of this approach are different, but they are all similar and can be summarized in a central and fundamental concept: reduction of lead times, management and production of handling machinery.
This ambitious project started by questioning the entire supply chain process of the industry, starting with the management of raw materials.”

In a context where supply is a strong risk factor due both to fluctuating market prices and to processing times, at Cvm we asked ourselves: is iron still the key material for our machines?
We made many evaluations and thought about many possible answers, but the basic idea was that only through diversification, a logical improvement could be achieved.
Specifically, we first started to use different metals, such as aluminum because of its ductility, and then we were able to use composite alloys that could be manufactured without carpentry.
This is a potentially revolutionary project, both in terms of the research and differentiation of the partners, and in terms of the realization and maintenance of the machinery itself, which, in this way, would see the reversal of the design-production concept”.

The machine is born different and, therefore, it will be handled differently throughout its lifecycle. In addition to raw materials, our design department has also revised its principles, choosing new and more powerful cad systems capable of managing more complex projects, both in their entire cycle and as individual elements belonging to modular libraries.
