A few years ago, before the pandemic, Robatech, the well-known manufacturer of adhesive application solutions, launched the EdgePro coating head as part of their closed edge banding system. In the meantime, many customers “…have increased the quality and the efficiency of their production with it. And now the great interest in EdgePro at Ligna shows that the time is just right for Robatech’s edge banding system“.
At Ligna 2023, Robatech presented an adhesive application system with a collaborative robot in addition to its closed system for edge banding with Pur hot melts. Cobots are intended to automate manual gluing processes, a possibility that is not yet widespread in the wood industry, but that will surely become of increasing interest in the future.
“Nevertheless, at Ligna, the trade show visitors were primarily interested in Robatech’s edge banding system. This is not surprising, as the topic of edge banding is generally of great interest in the furniture industry. The heart of Robatech’s edge banding system is the EdgePro coating head and the dedicated coating software of the adhesive melter“. With the EdgePro system, the amount of adhesive can be precisely controlled and applied with repeated accuracy. The result: Workpiece edges with optical zero joints. The Pur adhesive ensures permanent bonding, even with the smallest application weight. This makes it possible to reduce adhesive consumption and save costs.
While closed edge banding systems are no longer a novelty, digital functions come to the fore. “Today, customers are looking for integrated and automated solutions. The trend is clearly toward digitalization,” says Industry Manager Florentin Cioranu. “The more process data that can be generated and used, the more automated production runs”. With their edge banding system, Robatech are well on their way to the digital future. With the quantity control of the adhesive melter, a uniform adhesive application can be ensured at the touch of a button already today. The integration, storage, and analysis of data concerning adhesive application by the overall system, however, needs further development. This will once again increase the efficiency of production and lower the customers’ TCO.
