“Mathera”, the new-generation surface sprung from the collaboration between Saib Egger Group and Diego Grandi, has won the 2023 Good Design Award. The acknowledgment stands as a clear reconfirmation of the innovative nature of this project.
PRIZE
Currently presided by the Museum of Architecture and Design Chicago Athenaeum, the Good Design Award was founded in 1950 by the curator of the MoMA Edgar Kaufman Jr., together with architects and designers Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, Russel Wright, and George Nelson, and it is therefore one of the oldest and most prestigious international awards in the industry.
“MATHERA”
Mathera is a collection of panels that can be completely regenerated at the end of its life. The base is a Saib Egger Group chipboard panel made exclusively with recovered and regenerated end-of-life wood. The surface is created with a thin layer of wood, stone, and quartz dust from production waste, which are combined with resin binders. The result is a compound that makes the material scratch-, impact- and stain-resistant and focuses a very high level of resistance in a very limited thickness. Inspired on the world of stone, although it completely rethinks it, Mathera is offered in three different finishes: Selce, Areia and Gipso. Selce evokes the world of split stone by working with the aesthetical qualities of slate. Areia has a compact texture scattered with mineral grains in contrasting colour that echo the technique of bush hammering sandstone. Gipso reinterprets the supple consistency of plaster and has a soft and velvety surface. The collection is available in ten colours to provide great flexibility of use: from kitchen counter tops to furniture and wainscoting, up to the design of entire set-ups for kitchens, living- and bedrooms.
