The "Third environmental report" by FederlegnoArredo

FederlegnoArredo confirms its commitment on the issues of environmental sustainability with the publication of the “Third Environmental Report” of the chain. The aim of this study is to collect and organize environmental data from companies and provide a complete picture of initiatives and trends.
The third edition of the Report is growing both in terms of companies and volumes, and collects a representative sample of 84 companies with a turnover exceeding € 2.5 billion, 8 percent of the entire Italian wood and furniture system. Environmental certification of companies  are growing (+33 percent for Iso 14001) as well as forest certification schemes for wood products (+72 per cent).

This third edition of the Environmental Report certifies once again the will of the Federation, and the companies which compose it, to continue the journey began towards the sustainability of products and production − said Rosario Messina, president of FederlegnoArredo. Promoting and supporting tools that demonstrate the accuracy of environmental claims of firms is another task that FederlegnoArredo decided to develop, by virtue of the fact that the environmental features are becoming essential to underpin the industrial positions against the legislature, both at local and international level”.

Even in a difficult year, where we recorded a sharp drop in consumption − continues Rosario Messina − the environmental aspect continues to maintain its strong grip on consumers, as also issued on the research that FederlegnoArredo commissioned to Eurisko about behaviors on consumers’ purchase: many of them say they are willing to spend more for a product with excellence environmental attributes. The environmental initiatives of the Federation together with those of the territories and companies, provide us with a view that represents all the complexity of the contributions that are practiced at various levels to implement a path towards sustainability “.

For the first time in the Environmental Report 2010 also attended companies of bath and lighting industry for a more complete picture of the landscape of the industry.

“The tests which have accompanied this year the collection of data on the environmental aspects of business processes, have highlighted as a research, development and design are by far the phases in which the most important choices are being addressed − said Enrica Foppa Pedretti, chairman of the environment dept. of FederlegnoArredo. This confirms that companies have gained awareness of the need to address the environmental variables from the moment of conception of the product itself …”.
