In fifty years of history, Bau had never recorded such notable increases between two subsequent editions. The percentage of engineers and architects has increased again, reaching 22 percent, amounting to 52,800 admissions.
The visitors arrived in Monaco of Bavaria from 150 different countries. From the first day, the halls have been stormed, as confirmed by all exhibitors. Almost all the countries of origin have registered large increases in the number of visitors. Besides Germany, the main markets of origin of the operators were Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, France and Britain. Particularly important is also the increase in flows from non-European countries such as India, Japan, United States, Canada and Uae. The visits from these countries are almost doubled.
The director Reinhard Pfeiffer said: “Bau has gone beyond all expectations, yet again, making an incredible leap forward. The increase in the number of visitors should be attributed mainly to the growing international nature of the show. With 56,400 foreign workers, the share has reached an incredible 24 percent. The fair has also consolidated its position as a landmark event for architects and designers from around the world. The most important thing is that our customers, both exhibitors and visitors are extremely satisfied and that Bau was an excellent platform for their business.” .
Bau is not increased just in terms of quantity: the exhibition has proven to be an appointment quite indispensable for building professionals around the world, from designers and architects, to the construction companies. An appointment with the information and communication, but also a parade of news showing the future building developments.
This year, key themes were sustainable construction and building between generations. Both subjects were treated in special exhibitions, forums and conferences, such as the conference “Building for the future: sustainability, energy efficiency and innovation”, organized by the Ministry of Housing, or the exhibition “Building the Future” by Ministry of Economy. One of the main attractions was the solar home solar by Institute of Rosenheim, which won the second prize at the Solar Decathlon in Madrid.
Great interest also for the three Bau forums. In particular, the forum “The Future of Building”’, with presentations by international architects as Sir Peter Cook and Françoise Hélène Jourda. Few vacancies also for “MacroArchitecture Forum. The forum “Intelligent Buildings” has built a bridge between the rehabilitation and renovation of buildings and the construction of modern high-tech buildings, such as passive or Energy Plus houses. Finally, the German Ministry of Construction has presented number of research projects under the initiative “Zukunft Bau”.
Upon completion of the offer were awarded numerous prizes, including the famous architectural prize “Aesthetics and Construction”, in collaboration with the magazine Detail, and the Prize 1:1 “The first house” in collaboration with Bauwelt.
