  1. How are you reacting to this emergency?

Since day , our organization has been responding to this emergency systematically and proactively. Initially we addressed the crisis in alignment with the precautionary measures set by the Uae to prevent the spread of “Covd-19”, which included the rescheduling of our Wood Show events. After consulting and deliberating with our main partners and participants, we decided to reschedule Dubai WoodShow 2020 commencement date from March to June to ensure the health and safety of everyone.  Then we developed business continuity management strategies to minimize disruptions, make adjustments according to the changing situation, and resolve operational challenges. At this time, we’re utilizing a strong communication strategy through multiple channels, such as in our website and social media, making sure that we effectively engage with our audience and stakeholders on a regular basis to disseminate updates and helpful information about the wood industry and how it is coping with the current situation.  We have also invested in technology and infrastructure to facilitate remote work and virtual collaboration with our team in order to safeguard their welfare, as well. Ultimately we make sure that we always adhere to the health & safety regulations and guidelines established by the government to protect both our employees and clients, while continuing business and building resilience amidst the pandemic”.

  1. What do you think is changing or will change radically?

Undeniably this global pandemic has affected the majority, if not all, of businesses and industries all over the world. As a whole, it is changing the outlook for the global economy and stock market. The closures of establishments and soaring unemployment, among others, continue to increase people’s anxiety. However, we are optimistic that such negative impacts are only short-term.  For the most part, it’s changing how businesses operate at present, many are operating remotely and are relying on digital technology to enable communication and collaboration. As an individual, I believe it’s also changing people’s perspectives on life and it’s vulnerability. There are different possibilities and changes that can happen in the future depending on how the society and countries respond to this crisis and its repercussions. Preparation is the main key to survive the “post Covid-19 world”. Businesses must be equipped to manage potential setbacks and threats. Overall, hopefully, companies will take advantage of this predicament to build strength and a more solid management, and for people to foster better relationships and have a more meaningful lifestyle”.

  1. What should the authorities and all of us do?

“I think the authorities in different countries are doing their best to restrict the spread of “Covid-19” and protect the well-being of their people, like the suspension of international flights, implementing border control measures and entry restrictions. The UAE, in particular, has been implementing strict measures to fight the crisis such as giving stay-at-home orders, closing commercial establishments, and launching the 24-hour sterilization campaign to control the spread of the Coronavirus. The UAE also provided billions of economic stimulus packages to support enterprises and individuals that have been affected by the pandemic, as well as initiatives to provide water and electricity subsidies, postponement of rent payments for 6 months, to name a few. As responsible citizens, our full cooperation is needed to combat “Covid-19”. We need to follow the health and safety precautions recommended by health officials and follow the rules and regulations set by the government to protect ourselves and our families, and of course our frontliners”.
