“Legally recognize the wooden pallet as an essential product for the economy, as a real basic necessity, as it has already shown to be during the pandemic, thanks to the inclusion of the related Ateco code among the activities that could continue to produce. This recognition would have a symbolic value for our sector, but above all it would represent a concrete help to protect the production and distribution of pallets, thus avoiding the blocking of the movement of goods which could also have negative consequences on employment levels“. This is the request addressed to the institutions by Massimiliano Bedogna, coordinator of the Pallet Group of Assoimballaggi of FederlegnoArredo.
“The pallet ‘moves’ most of the goods in the world, stopping the pallet means stopping everything; pallet producers, like the rest of the wood supply chain, are in great difficulty both due to the scarcity of raw materials and the skyrocketing prices which, from July 2020, have reached increases even higher than 100 percent of the value . The solution to this emergency that has put the entire wood supply chain in difficulty – concludes Bedogna – cannot also ignore the implementation of a national policy for managing forests and woods, to put an end to the phenomenon of the massive import of timber from abroad. , compared to the large wooded area available to our country“.
