News from Rehau. The group – specialized in finishing solutions – is planning to build a new plant for the production of edgebands in North America, more precisely in Mexico. “The decision to relocate Rehau’s edging tape production from our plant in Baie d’Urfé, to Montreal, was very difficult, but market conditions forced us to act, as we have to be a reliable partner that delivers products to our customers“, said Thomas Troeger, ceo of Rehau Americas. “The labour shortage in Montreal is having an impact on our ability to meet customer expectations, a situation that is expected to continue. Despite our teams working longer hours, we are not able to meet current demand, nor help customers grow their business. This is a customer-driven decision; Rehau is committed to providing the same high-quality product, but in a much more proactive and timely manner“.
“We are proud of our 60-year history in the Montreal region and the 17 years we have been manufacturing edges at the Baie d’Urfé plant. Our Montreal team will continue to produce edgebands throughout 2023, until the new plant is in full production by the first quarter of 2024. We will stand by our 200 employees in Quebec and help them find future employment“, Troeger said.
