News, challenges and focus on digital. The future of Weinig, the German woodworking machinery specialist, starts from two keywords that had characterized their agenda in the recent years: innovation and digital transformation.
PROFILING
“Hydromat” is the new high-speed machine designed by Weinig for planing and profiling operations. The feed speed is 400 meters per minute and the machine is controlled by wmc. “The benefits of this machine – according to Weinig – are particularly clear for sawmills, as they process sawn timber and can benefit from a strong, highly durable, high-performance machine”.
Its highlights include an innovative wood saving system designed to optimize chip removal and save material during the pre-planing process. The machine can be equipped flexibly to produce profiled items.
“Hydromat 3000” is an evolution of the “Hydromat” line, maintaining the same features of its “sisters”: strength, wear resistance, power and working speed, an ideal solution for secondary sawn wood processing, among others.
All adjustments are controlled by cnc with no manual operation, meaning that the machine can also be used by less qualified staff. The control system dashboard is customizable and intuitive.
BIG PLANTS
Complete lines and complex systems are the new frontier of innovation-focused investments by the German group. In Hanover, Weinig will exhibit a optimizing cross-cut line with a cross-cut saw, connected to a finger jointing line and robot stacking.
The fully automated process starts with “CombiScan Sense” performing wood scanning and continues with the “OptiCut 450 Quantum” cross-cut saw.
“CombiScan Sense” is a scanner designed to detect cracks, knots and imperfections, and it can scan up to 80 boards per minute. To check the wood quality, the scanner uses artificial intelligence for more accurate, reliable and repeatable acquisition. The scanner allows to automate the line and reduce labor. According to Weinig, it also offers material saving in the range of three to ten percent, according to the application.
In the second step of the process, the wood is cut to the required length using the high-speed cross-cut saw “OptiCut 450 Quantum”. The “VarioStroke” cutting unit of OptiCut 450 Quantum can be flexibly adjusted to eight different cutting positions, offering extremely short cutting time for all the cross sections within the maximum cutting range allowed.
The enhanced sawblade bearing and the exclusive blade guide improve the cutting quality also at high frequencies: thanks to the dynamic feeding unit and the feeding roller with individual control from above, the workpieces are always guided safely. In this way, the finger jointing line is loaded in a fully automated way.
The finger jointing line “HS 200” is characterized by production capacity up to 240 parts per minute. All the tools can be adjusted with 0.01 millimeter accuracy, and the minimum offset of the joint height ensures high material yield.
“PROFIPRESS C 2500 HF”
For the production of solid wood panels, Weinig launched “ProfiPress C 2500 HF”, a gluing press that stands out for its high working speed: with this solution, up to one hundred laminations per minute can be glued on the edge. The high-frequency heating system ensures a quick curing of glue joints without heating the wood. The result is stress-free solid wood panels. The possibility to execute continuous gluing in combination with a cross-cut saw after the press, to cut the glued panel to the required width, ensures optimal wood exploitation.
“CONTUREX”
The technology highlight presented by Weinig at the next Ligna also include the working center “Conturex Vario L”. With the multipart sequence process for cnc finishing on six faces, the process is faster: profile milling, drilling and cutting to size are performed at high speed, and no manual setting is required, as the transition is automatic.
“POWERSPLIT 1250”
Last but not least, the high-performance single band resaw “PowerSplit 1250” reaches a feed speed up to 150 meters per minute, according to the company, and can process and cut both hardwood and softwood rapidly. “The new generation of “Split” band resaws is equipped with band saw blades that minimize waste and operate at variable cutting speeds from 20 to 60 meters. Optimum material yield is achieved thanks to the center cut device. The adjustable configurations of the saw reduce the idle time of the band saw”.
