The prize-giving ceremony for the If Design Student Award 2024, one of the world’s most important and significant competitions for young designers for over 20 years, was recently held at the Triennale Milano.
After the first phase of judging the almost 10,000 projects nominated for the award by students from 72 countries by an online jury, 300 projects qualified for the “short list”. After the final jury meeting on 26 April in Berlin, the 76 winners from 24 countries of the If Design Student Award 2024, whose categories correspond to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), were announced.
Nine pioneering solutions were awarded the If Design Student Award 2024 and also received a total of 50,000 euro in cash. All award-winning young designers from 18 countries were invited to Milan for the award ceremony. There, the winners received their prizes from Uwe Cremering, ceo of iF Design, at the Milan Triennale: “This year again, we were fascinated by the inspiring power of young design talents from all over the world, who work with courage and passion to make the world a better place with their ideas. We are grateful for the great commitment of our expert jury and also for the loyalty and support of our renowned sponsors, most of whom have been with us for many years. Without them, this competition would not be possible!”.
The nine best concepts awarded by the If Design Student Award 2024are: “Click” (simple and sustainable stoma care device); “Cloud Telescope” (product to help children learn about weather); “Infinity Block” (Formularbeginn cognitive training toy); “Nobjecte” (AI image recognition tool for visually impaired people); “Pongo” (dressing aid for people with arm disabilities); “ReShade” (cooling and greening system on scaffolding); “Therm Harvest Nexus” (geothermal greenhouse); “Touch’n taste” (meal assistance for deafblind children); “Vela 9” (portable wind turbine).
THE EVALUATION CRITERIA
To receive the If Design Student Award 2024, projects must score above average in response to the following questions:
– Does it solve a problem?
– Does it reflect or promote high ethical-moral standards?
– Does it strengthen group relations?
– Does it create a positive experience?
– Does it make economic sense?
