Sustainability and industrial innovation are now at the center of the agenda of almost all companies, both Italian and European. A tangible mission, no longer based “only” on the reduction of emissions, but which embraces different spheres, “green” paths at an environmental, social and economic level. A word, a concept, a goal that is particularly relevant and significant in Decor Leader, the Marche-based company specializing in the production of thermoplastic edges, finished and laminated exclusively by digital printing for the furniture sector. Founded in 2014 by Daniele Martelloni and Filippo Ciamaglia, in Pesaro, in one of the districts of Italian furniture and furnishings, Decor Leader has managed in a short time to carve out an important role in the supply chain, focusing immediately on two key concepts: innovation and sustainability.
“Focusing on innovation and sustainability is a choice we made in 2013, even before the foundation, and which immediately directed the company to a new way of understanding “doing business”, detaching itself from tradition to meet an innovative development in the sector“, they explained to us directly at Decor Leader. “Leading the way is never easy, the first years were devoted exclusively to the research and optimization of an innovative process, but the perseverance of the entrepreneurs and the clear objectives have turned this into a story of success and sustainable growth“.
SUSTAINABILITY: A NEW CHALLENGE
“In the 2030 Agenda – specifies CEO Daniele Martelloni – there is a clear commitment to sustainability and sustainable development. A new challenge that concerns the future of our generations: combining economic growth with personal well-being, social inclusion and respect for the environment that surrounds us. At Decor Leader we have these issues well in mind, so much so that we have introduced a task force made up of various industry professionals, with the aim of proposing and innovating our company in all areas”.
“Another focal point of Decor Leader in 2025 – Filippo Ciamaglia, partner and head of the company’s digital area tells us – is the decision to make a substantial investment in a new digital printing line (Decor Leader produces only with this technology, ed.) with the exclusive use of water-based inks. This is a momentous change for us, our customers and our collaborators, but we felt that it was the right historical moment, and with our partners, after painstaking planning and design work, we defined the technological part to have the plant ready for testing by September 2025.
All this, added to the ability of digital systems (unlike traditional rotogravure systems) to reduce waste and monitor the consumption of inks and paints in the production process, launches us forcefully towards that idea of a Sustainable Company, attentive to the principles of creating good governance practices”.
RECYCLING
During the two-year period 2023/2024, as reported by the top management of Decor Leader, great attention was paid to company packaging, with a constant dialog with customers to reduce the use of superfluous materials in the face of an increase in recyclable materials that already come from recycled materials.
An activity – they explain – that has led to a review of the packaging, making it more sustainable, with the approval and participation of more than 90 percent of customers. A discourse of culture that sometimes finds hitches caused by bad habits now standardized within companies.
“In all this, we have started a journey together with our suppliers, who will be analyzed and evaluated not only from the point of view of financial reliability, but also from the point of view of the good practices implemented, to have reliable partners who share our strategies and our business values“.
THE NEW FACTORY
Not only training. Decor Leader, moving out to a new factory of about 6,500 square meters completed in December 2023, has rationalized the layout and reorganized the entire production cycle, optimizing flows and reducing the movement of raw materials and semi-finished products, also thanks to the structure of the new warehouses that have helped in this regard. Particular attention has also been paid to people – at the center of social sustainability – to their well-being, production performance and product quality; the property has decided to invest in an innovative adiabatic room air treatment system, a system that, with minimal consumption, allows to reduce the heat in the company by 8/10 degrees centigrade compared to the ambient temperature, And above all, it increase the pressure level in all production departments, preventing contaminants of various kinds, such as dust or tree pollen, from entering the departments themselves, thus ensuring impeccable quality of the surfaces of our edges in the printing and finishing departments.
“These are just some of the points that the company is pursuing to achieve the expected objectives; after obtaining the Iso9001 certification in September 2024, the practice and “due diligence” for the Iso14000 certification has already started, with the goal of finalizing the process at the end of 2025, aware that only through the sharing of certain values with the territory, with our collaborators and with our customers and suppliers, we can really contribute to establish this new way of doing business“.
